FAQ
Answers to the most common questions about our Czech courses for foreigners in Prague and online – levels, prices, payment, attendance and exams.
Courses & levels
Which Czech course should I choose?
For long-term study alongside work, choose a standard in-class course or an online standard course (2× 90 minutes a week). For fast progress, choose the intensive two-week course (Mon–Fri, 9:30–12:30). If you have no time during the week, try the weekend course, and for full flexibility a private course.
Which levels do you teach?
We teach all levels from complete beginners (A1.1) up to B2, and C1 on request. Groups are divided by level: Total Beginners A1.1, False Beginners A1.1, Elementary A1.2, Upper Elementary A1.3, Pre-intermediate A2.1 and A2.2, Pre-intermediate II B1.1, Intermediate B1.2 and Upper Intermediate B2.
How do I find out my level?
Take our free online placement test. Our team will evaluate it and recommend the right level and course type. Complete beginners don't need the test and can book directly.
How big are the groups?
Groups have a maximum of 4–8 students, so everyone has plenty of time to speak and ask questions.
Who are the teachers?
All lessons are taught by experienced native Czech teachers who specialise in teaching Czech to foreigners. You can meet them on our tutors page.
Which textbooks do you use?
Levels A1–A2 use Česky krok za krokem 1, level B1 uses Česky krok za krokem 2 and level B2 uses Czech it UP / Čeština pro cizince B2. CLT students get a 40% discount on textbooks – see our textbooks page.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes, students of our all courses receive a certificate after completing the course.
Enrolment & payment
How do I enrol?
Take the placement test, receive our recommendation and book your course online. Beginners can book directly. The full process is described on the How to enrol page.
How much do the courses cost?
Group courses (standard, online and weekend) cost 200 CZK per 45-minute lesson, intensive courses 150 CZK per lesson. Private online lessons cost 899 CZK per 60 minutes for one student, 499 CZK per person for two and 399 CZK per person for three. See the full price list.
Do I have to pay for a whole semester?
No. You only pay one month in advance, or two weeks for intensive courses. At the end of each period you decide whether to continue.
When do I have to pay?
Your place is reserved for two working days after booking. The course must be paid within this time and always before the first lesson; otherwise the reservation is cancelled.
How can I pay?
In cash or by card in our office (Mon–Fri 9:30–13:00), by card online, by bank transfer, by QR code, with employee benefits (Benefit Plus, Benefity, Pluxee, Edenred) or with a CLT gift voucher.
Can I get a refund?
Payments are non-refundable and cannot be used as credit for later courses. That's why you only ever pay for one month (or two weeks) at a time.
Lessons & attendance
What if I miss a lesson?
If you tell us in writing before the start of the month (or before the next intensive course) which dates you will miss, you get a 50% discount on those lessons. You can ask your teacher by email about the content and homework of the missed lesson.
How do online lessons work?
Online lessons take place live via video call in small groups with a native teacher. They have the same structure and quality as lessons in Prague.
Can I cancel a private lesson?
Yes. If you cancel a private lesson by email to office@czlt.cz more than 24 hours in advance, its price is moved as credit to the following month.
When do new courses start?
Standard, online and weekend courses continue every month (enrolment for the next month opens on the 20th). Intensive courses start every two weeks. Current dates are on the courses page.
