Why do I teach Czech for foreigners? Every lesson was a big discovery for me at the beginning and at the same time it is a pleasure that the students feel it alike. I discover my mother language, its riches and also its difficulty, I discover new sights at us, the Czechs, I discover the similarities and the differencies between us and our languages. There is always something, what suprises me, turns upside up my visions („How it is, that Icelanders don´t like their great films?“), and it is good! Getting to know foriegn students through my own language is my work, but I enjoy it so much.

My name is Eva, I really admire all foreigners who are interested in Czech language despite they can speak English - specially in Prague. I love meeting new people, talking to them and I also trying to see what is the best kind of help for them to recognize the new culture and the new language in The Czech Republic. One day I asked myself how to put together my hunger after cognition, my needs to communicate and needs to help someone. The answer was clear : I will become a Czech Language tutor and I will teach this hard but very beautiful language. It really personally fills me up for many years. Fate will sometimes have it that an unexpected event will turn out to become a turning-point which will determin the rest of your future life. And although I never intended to be a teacher, that is what I do now. Teaching has become an important part my life ´s journey

I like working with people, I like to listen and I really enjoy, when adults do not resist the games. I try to make my lessons varied, playful and entertaining and I like to use various audio-visual techniques, or combine exercise and practice of linguistics phenomena. I like to discover and overcome language difficulties together with students. The biggest motivation for me is the students' success and satisfaction in their own progress.

The idea of teaching Czech for foreigners crossed my mind when I was studying abroad. With other international students we were teaching each other some words from our languages and we discovered a lot of tiny differences between their meaning and using. I didn’t want to leave this pleasant and appealing world in which you can meet people from other countries and keep recognizing magic of speech in general. Therefore I stared to teach Czech for foreigners. And here are three words describing my Czech lessons: friendly approach, individuality and game.

I started to teach during my University studies and although I changed my job after my graduation, I finally decided to get back to teaching. It’s creative work that I really enjoy and that enriches me as well. Even I keep learning and developing myself because any language helps you to discover new scopes of life. I’m happy to see my students’ progress and success and to know that for them, studying is pleasant and useful way how to spend their free time

Why did I start teaching Czech? At first Czech was always my hobby. I like its picturesqueness and diversity. On the other hand I can imagine how much it can complicate the life to most of foreigners living in Czech republic as I have also experienced the situation when I could not express what I liked to and could understand even less…Therefore I decided to do this lovely job so all my students could feel in our country like at real home.

Languages are a tool for discovering the principles of our different cultures, languages may lead us to a mutual understanding. Thanks to the students I can better understand the other cultures. Together with the students I can discover the Czech language and what it means to be Czech and see the world through "czech glasses". And what more I can have a great fun!

I like miracles. When a foreigner achieves to speak Czech, I consider it a miracle too. Teaching is something like opening the door. And there is always something new behind this door.

This work was my dream for a long time. When I learned about the existence of Czech for foreigners during my university studies of czech language, I new immediately what I wanted to do. I like my country and my language and I like the idea that my work helped to someone to communicate in a specific situation or that I made his life in our country easier. It is an interesting and never-ending work, because even after years of practice there is always something to discover and to learn. I appreciate that this job allows me to combine two of my favorite principles – systematic and play. I always try to use both of them in my lessons. My goal is that my students left not only with new knowledge but also in a good mood

Teaching of the Czech language not only requires effective knowledge transfer of the Czech language, but also enters into the logic of languages spoken by students. So it's not just the lecturer who teaches, in a way, teachers are also students. What l like best at the teaching of Czech for foreigners is that both students and teachers, enter the fascinating phenomenon of human speech, which ceases to be just a practical tool for transmitting information, but it is also the peculiar and enchanting adventure of the world of interpersonal communication. Be it any of languages that people speak

I enjoy teaching Czech because it is a very creative job. I often prepare my own exercises, use authentic texts or draw pictures. A good knowledge of my native language helps me to understand the structure of other languages and see the differences. I am happy to share Czech culture with my students

My parents are both teachers and therefore I never wanted to be a teacher but something happened and I can say the Czech tutoring is incredibly enjoyable for me as I can be creative and free at any doing in my classes as much as I like. The most important are the practical skills of my students so they could use their every single lesson for a new level of communication “at the street”. The most interesting for me is meeting people from different countries and see their different cultures and attitudes to the human life then.

My beloved teacher - Professor Večerka - always used to tell us that we see the world through our language. If we have no word for a certain type of flower, we cannot distinguish it from other flowers. If there is no word in our language for "yellow", then we see only light green.I like to teach foreigners to see the world in a Czech way.And not only foreigners... my two little daughters already see the world in that way, too.

Hello, my name is Katerina. I came to the Czech Republic 6 years ago and started to study Czech. I graduated from the Czech Language Department at Charle's University and now I pursue this language professionally. When I ask myself ,"Why do I teach Czech for foreigners?" I say, " Becouse I know, how to do it." I understand the problems and difficulties, which foreign students have and I can help and advise them. I teach asylum seekers at the center InBaze. At my lessons I use contrastive educational method. I try to compare Czech with native language of my students. I put a big accent on the pronunciation, as I consider correct pronunciation a necessary komponent of the communication, which leads to better orientation in the Czech environment and better understanding of local culture and traditions.

Why do I teach Czech for foreigners? All of my life I like travelling and meeting new people from foreign countries. I enjoy when people try to communicate in different languages. But it is still Czech, which is the nicest language for me. And so I am really glad to teach people who are interested in this beautifull language.

Each teacher is different. Everyone uses a different approach, behaves differently, has his/her own ideas, activities, and games. I believe that the observation of another teacher is a very useful tool for teachers´ development.  The observer always finds new inspiration and the teacher observed gains feedback about things that he/she may not notice or reflect during the lesson. The observations don´t require evaluation or criticism but they provide the opportunity to think about the teaching process and about options and ways to improve it.
